THE FILM CLUB (Edward McKenzie’s Licentiate Project): The next film, to be shown on Thursday 23rd February at 7.00pm, will be ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ based on the novel by CS Lewis.  Members of the congregation (young and not so young!) together with friends and family are invited to come along to enjoy the film, followed by discussion.  As the film is a little longer than usual (143 mins) we will begin promptly!  
 
THE BOYS’ BRIGADE thanks all those who supported their ‘Coffee and Coppers’ event last Saturday.  The amount raised was £745 which will be split three ways amongsts the BB School in Uganda, Children’s Special Service Mission, and The Life Change Centre in Windhoek, Namibia.
 
MARIE CURIE TREK CAMBODIA – The Fundraising cinema night on 1 February raised £902.  A further £82 was collected by children of the Sunday Children’s Group.  Marion Allen is most appreciative of the generosity and support and extends her thanks to all.

PRAYER MINISTRY SEMINAR - Led by Mrs Heather Thompson and Team
This seminar is for those who want to learn more about the ministry of prayer for healing of those who are hurting or sick in body, mind or spirit.  Even if you don’t want to participate officially in a prayer ministry team you may find the insights helpful in praying for your family and friends at home.
The programme includes worship, times of meditation, teaching, participation and encouragement.  The aim is that, throughout, you may find this a time of refreshing as you meditate on the love of the Father, a time of receiving healing and enabling healing for others as you learn to listen to God and move at His bidding, and a time when you become excited by the knowledge that God speaks to you and helps others through you.

FREEWILL OFFERING ENVELOPES: Our church, like every organisation, feels the need to look at its expenditure in these difficult times.  The cost of producing books of Freewill Offering Envelopes is high and it has been decided to purchase a smaller quantity than in previous years.  This has meant re-numbering individual sets of envelopes to eliminate waste caused by unused numbers.
Additionally, it has been decided that where members have not used their envelopes regularly over a period of time new ones for 2012 would not be issued automatically.
If you have not received envelopes but you wish to have them, please speak to your Elder or Committee Member, or telephone the Church Office, and they will be issued to you.

The Annual Carol Service will be held in the Church next Sunday Evening, 18th December 2011, at 7.00pm.  This will be a celebration of the Christmas Season with Scripture Readings and Carols.
Everyone welcome for Tea and Mince Pies in the Anderson Hall after the Service.

CHRISTMAS DAY
An informal Family Service to celebrate the birth of Christ will be held on Christmas morning at 10.30am.
The Service will be led by our Assistant Minister, Mr Edward McKenzie, and we look forward to welcoming everyone on this special day in the Christian calendar.

THE FILM CLUB will meet for a Christmas Special on Thursday 29th December at 7.00pm in the Committee Room when the film will be “The Muppets Christmas Carol” starring Michael Caine.  This is a retelling of the classic Dickens tale of Ebenezer Scrooge, miser extraordinaire. He is held accountable for his dastardly ways during night-time visitations by the Ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future.  Members of the congregation, young and old, as well as friends and family, are invited to come along to enjoy the film followed by discussion.  Edward McKenzie would value your support with his Licentiate Project.
 
BB WEEK: The Captain, Officers and Boys thank the congregation for donations by envelope and boys’ collection cards.  The amount collected was £1,100.  Your generosity is very much appreciated.
 
PW thank members of the congregation for their support and generosity at the Christmas Sale last Friday, 2nd December, when the sum of £1,227 was raised.
 
FANNER BEES: There are two kinds of bees in the hive: workers and fanners.  The fanner bees gather inside the hive, facing the centre, and move their wings rapidly.  Like a powerful fan this draws the stale, impure, bad air out and puts in fresh clean air.  Without each one doing its job, the bee community could not survive.
 
The work of these fanner bees can be likened to those in the church who are called to a special ministry of prayer.  These are believers whose major work is to stay in touch with the clean, pure air of God’s Holy Spirit.  When Jesus said to pray and not lose heart, he was urging the disciples to pray without ceasing.  The community of faith is strengthened as we respond to this call from God.
 
If God has called you to a life of personal and intercessory prayer, join the fanner bees and see God work in our church and community.  As a fanner bee for our congregation, the aim is to pray that the Holy Spirit may invade and fill the whole Body of our Church – Minister, Elders, Leaders, People, that we may be immersed and enveloped in the love of Christ.  Become a fanner bee today, whether old or young, and through regular and focused praying in the quietness of your own home ask God to release new life within our congregation and give us power to reach out to the whole community.  If you would like more information contact Dr Nel, Ian Shanks or Richard Wilson.

The Annual Carol Service will be held in the Church on Sunday Evening, 18th December 2011, at 7.00pm.  This will be a celebration of the Christmas Season with Scripture Readings and Carols.
Everyone welcome for Tea and Mince Pies in the Anderson Hall after the Service.
(Did you know that St Francis of Assisi introduced Christmas Carols to formal church services?)

CONCERT
A fund-raising concert - ‘Ivan’s One-Man Show’, with Ivan Black, will take place this Friday 9th December at 7.30pm in the Church Hall.
This will be a 2-hour extravaganza of music, laughter and fun.  Tickets cost £10 and are available from Wider World Group members, the Church Office, McCann’s and Revive Book Store.
Proceeds in aid of Wider World Group mission projects.

SUNDAY SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENT:
A Christmas Service for Children and Youth - will take place on Sunday 18th December at 11.00am.
 
FANNER BEES:

 There are two kinds of bees in the hive: workers and fanners.  The fanner bees gather inside the hive, facing the centre, and move their wings rapidly.  Like a powerful fan this draws the stale, impure, bad air out and puts in fresh clean air.  Without each one doing its job, the bee community could not survive.

 
The work of these fanner bees can be likened to those in the church who are called to a special ministry of prayer.  These are believers whose major work is to stay in touch with the clean, pure air of God’s Holy Spirit.  When Jesus said to pray and not lose heart, he was urging the disciples to pray without ceasing.  The community of faith is strengthened as we respond to this call from God.
 
If God has called you to a life of personal and intercessory prayer, join the fanner bees and see God work in our church and community.  As a fanner bee for our congregation, the aim is to pray that the Holy Spirit may invade and fill the whole Body of our Church – Minister, Elders, Leaders, People, that we may be immersed and enveloped in the love of Christ.  Become a fanner bee today, whether old or young, and through regular and focussed praying in the quietness of your own home ask God to release new life within our congregation and give us power to reach out to the whole community.  If you would like more information contact Dr Nel, Ian Shanks or Richard Wilson.
