To stand on one leg and prove God's existence is a very different thing from going on one's knees and thanking Him (From: Journals)

Eph 5:18-20 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The movies God is not dead and Dead is not dead 2 are typical of the age in which we live. There is massive pressure on Christians to defend their position. Sometimes it is because the views and values of Christianity are not tolerated. Sometimes we have to defend the very core of our faith. We try to convince people with rational arguments. We look for proofs for God’s existence.

Obviously, there are many signs of God’s existence, historical evidence for Christ’s existence, ministry, death and resurrection. We do not have to be ashamed of what we believe. No serious historian will deny that Jesus walked this earth and had an amazing impact on the world afterwards.

The Danish philosopher and theologian, Søren Kierkegaard, helps us to understand that the best proof for God’s existence is on another level. Spectacular arguments and attempts may prove God’s existence. Yet, this is only on an intellectual level. There are many people who have brilliant minds, but still have to learn to worship. There are many people who can sweep us off our feet with their oratorical ability to speak about God, but who are not filled by God’s Spirit.

We have to ask ourselves if our focus is right. Worship outweighs everything else in our Christian life. God did not call us to defend Him. God did not call us to prove His existence. God called us to show the world in our devotion to the living God that He is real in our lives. God called us to live in the power of His Spirit. The natural result is worship, says Paul. The natural result is a life of thankfulness. This is the best proof for God’s existence. It is better than any logical argument.

Father, fill me with you Spirit so that I shall fulfil my primary purpose to worship and serve you, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
